A New York lawmaker is proposing to decriminalize psychedelic mushrooms in the state.
Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal (D) introduced the reform legislation on Monday. It would amend state statute by removing psilocybin and psilocin—two of the primary psychoactive components in so-known as magic mushrooms—from the list of controlled substances.
This is equivalent to a bill Rosenthal filed final year, except that the old version only covered psilocybin whilst the new 1 also consists of psilocin. The measure has now been referred to the Assembly Overall health Committee.
A “justification” section of the legislation notes that study shows psilocybin has substantial possible to enable treat mental overall health circumstances such as serious depression, anxiousness and addiction. It also lists cities that have currently moved to decriminalize the psychedelic and says “New York need to do the exact same.”
