The managing editor directly supervises the day-to-day operations of the publication, and reports to the editor in chief. Your responsibilities are to suggest ideas, assign and edit articles, keep the staff on schedule, answer questions from department editors, and provide constructive feedback to writers. You are also required to publish your own written articles and editorials on a weekly basis. The managing editor is a key part of the publication in ensuring that tasks are produced at a level that complies with the company’s tone, mission, and style.
- Writing press releases, social media captions, articles, and website and ad copy across multiple platforms. Uploading original or sourced content to a scheduling tool or social media. Collaborate with the editor in chief to determine issues’ content and topics for staff writers and maintain content calendar by utilizing campaign metrics to refine content strategy as necessary.
- Hire and train writers for specified channels. Oversee proofreading procedures and edit copy when necessary. Assist in evaluating finalized copy for compliance with policies, style, and tone.
- Constantly keeping up with news in the cannabis world, whether that’s consuming reports, articles, or video content. Brainstorming with the editorial team for new ideas and strategies for effective content.
- Plan and manage all daily operations with regards to the channel and publishing two articles per week with original and innovative writing. You are also required to monitor and respond to e-mails, update calendars, sheets, and tasks in alignment with e-mail correspondence, and enforce deadlines.
