Murphy’s been in a handful of higher-profile projects lately, which is a alter from the acting hiatus he took for a portion of the 2010s — and on a current episode of WTF with Marc Maron, the comedian and actor explained why he took the time off.

“I was producing shitty films,” he told Maron, referring to a string of important and industrial bombs that earned him several Razzie awards, like one particular for “Worst Actor of the Decade.”

“The program was to go do Dolemite, Saturday Evening Reside, Coming two America and then do stand-up and see how I felt afterwards,” he explained. “At least then they will know I am funny.”

Murphy’s return to stand-up was thwarted by the COVID-19 pandemic, but he lately claimed in an interview with Kevin Hart that he plans to take the stage once more when it really is protected to do so. Fascinating stuff!
