Former SLAYER drummer Dave Lombardo talks about METALLICA. Dave says Lars is very important to the band.

Dave Lombardo who real name David Lombardo, was born in 1965 in Havana, Cuba. He is also one of the founding members of the American-thrash metal band SLAYER. He founded the band SLAYER in 1981 and became one of the iconic names in the music world. He also performed with METALLICA in 2004, replacing Lars Ulrich.

A few days ago, Dave Lombardo spoke to Speak N’Destroy. During the conversation, Dave talked about METALLICA and Lars Ulrich.

According to Dave, METALLICA‘s members and vision put them out of reach. Their songs, career choices, and aesthetics are in perfect harmony: “The band would take on a different personality if anybody else would be behind the kit, and that’s why I wouldn’t change Metallica for anything.”

Dave added: “I mean, METALLICA is who they are, and it’s commendable that they’ve maintained their lineup pretty much intact – well, obviously not with the bass player changes and the passing of Cliff Burton.”

Dave Lombardo: “Without Lars, there wouldn’t be a Metallica”

Dave Lombardo also says that Lars Ulrich is an exemplary drummer and is a very good arranger. Even Dave thinks that METALLICA cannot exist without Lars Ulrich.

“I think Lars is a good drummer. He’s a good arranger. He arranges … Without Lars, there wouldn’t be a METALLICA. So you have to give him credit for what he does for the band.” he said.

He emphasizes that the chemistry of a band is very important. “It’s very important when you have chemistry within a band. There are four members of the band. When there’s chemistry, like, a special interaction between musicians, if you take one musician out, it’s not the same.

Also, he added: “If you take Lars out of the equation, it won’t be the same.”
