Netizens lashed out at celebrities for their co-ordinated tweets using hashtags like #IndiaTogether #IndiaAgainstPropaganda and called them out for not standing with the farmers.
The farmers’ protests in India has gained solid international attention in the last 24 hours. From Rihanna to Greta Thunberg, many international personalities took to social media to extend their support to farmers who have been protesting for the last few months over the Centre’s farms laws. “We stand in solidarity with the #FarmersProtest in India,” tweeted Greta while Rihanna said, “why aren’t we talking about this?! #FarmersProtest.”
While their tweets received support from netizens and personalities at large, the Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement with the hashtags #IndiaAgainstPropaganda and #IndiaTogether. Soon after, these hashtags were used by various politicians and Bollywood celebrities as they backed the Centre over its farm laws.
“Don’t fall for any false propaganda against India or Indian policies. Its important to stand united at this hour w/o any infighting #IndiaTogether #IndiaAgainstPropaganda,” tweeted Ajay Devgn. Whereas, Karan Johar tweeted, “We live in turbulent times and the need of the hour is prudence and patience at every turn. Let us together, make every effort we can to find solutions that work for everyone—our farmers are the backbone of India. Let us not let anyone divide us. #IndiaTogether.”
Akshay Kumar tweeted a part of the MEA statement saying, “Farmers constitute an extremely important part of our country. And the efforts being undertaken to resolve their issues are evident. Let’s support an amicable resolution, rather than paying attention to anyone creating differences. #IndiaTogether #IndiaAgainstPropaganda.” Ekta Kapoor, Suniel Shetty and Kangana Ranaut were also some other celebs who tweeted using these hashtags.
Netizens lashed out at the celebrities for their co-ordinated tweets and called them out for not standing with the farmers. While some called them ‘opportunists’, others brought up Akshay’s Canadian citizenship to the fore.

Akshay Kumar, Kangana Ranaut, and Ajay Devgn have all used the hashtag ‘IndiaAgainstPropoganda’ – almost as if a concerted propoganda unit has been telling them what to tweet 🙂
